With an unprecedented 36% of first-time exhibiting artists, La Quinta Arts Festival® has raised the bar in attracting new creative talent. Hailing from 35 U.S. states as well as Canada, this year’s 220 artists will showcase never-before-seen works in every fine art and craft category.
Heading this impressive roster is first-time exhibitor Debra Steidel, (Wimberley, TX), whose work has been shown in art galleries across the United States and United Kingdom. Steidel will be making her debut as one of the 2018 Featured Artists. After years of hearing about the reputation of La Quinta Arts Festival® from fellow artists around the country, she is thrilled to participate. Steidel will showcase her fine art porcelain vessels with hand-sculpted, glass lids.
New to the Festival’s printmaking category is artist Pop Zhao, one of the most accomplished artists to emerge from China in recent decades. An honor graduate from the prestigious Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing, Zhao was the Beijing Olympics opening artist, creating an 8 mile-long artwork on the Great Wall of China. Since moving to San Francisco two decades ago, he was appointed art commissioner for the city and was the first artist to show his work in the new San Francisco Asian Art Museum. For La Quinta Arts Festival®, Zhao will exhibit his black and white Tibetan print collection.
New in the Jewelry category is Megan Clark (Durham, NC), who hand fabricates everything from silver and gold sheet and wire, to show-stopping pieces featuring stingray leather. Her impeccable technical skill is matched with a discerning design sensibility. Clark was honored to receive a Saul Bell Award for her “Stingray Feathers” necklace, which was also featured on the cover of Lark Book’s “500 Art Necklaces”
