If you have been looking for an excuse to get a little more exercise, National Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 19, might be the perfect day to trade your car keys for a bicycle and helmet.
La Quinta prides itself on being a bike friendly community, with nearly 130 miles of designated bike lanes and paths.
The City has invested in making bike lanes safer and more connected over the last 10 years, and continually completes gap closures where bike lanes are missing; installs green paint to highlight where bike paths are located; reduces vehicle lane widths to increase the width of bike lanes; and installs painted buffers along existing bike lanes.
These safety improvements are completed with every citywide Striping Refresh Project, Pavement Rehabilitation and Pavement Maintenance Project the City completes.
National Bike to Work Day coincides with May being designated as National Bike Safety Month.
Be sure to always bike safely, whether riding to work or for recreation.
Wear your helmet, stay in the bike lanes, and remember that all cyclists must obey the same traffic laws as motor vehicle drivers. Working lights and reflectors are also essential for staying safe.
Friday promises to be a warm day, with a forecast for temperatures above 100 degrees, so don’t forget your water and sunscreen.
